Photo Gallery GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team won its sixth consecutive game on Tuesday night with a 72-66 win at Seton Hill University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover game at Seton Hill's McKenna Center.
The Golden Bears (7-3, 4-1 PSAC) led for 85 percent of the game and didn't trail after the opening minutes of the game. The win extended Kutztown's season-long winning streak to six, the program's longest streak since 2012 when it won 10 straight. KU was one of two PSAC East programs to win on Tuesday night (Lock Haven), as KU now sits atop the Eastern Division with East Stroudsburg.
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) led the way for KU with 16 points while making all six of his free throws. He also added six rebounds and four blocks for his fourth 4+ block game of the year.
Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) notched his third double-double of the season and his first since Nov. 25 at Martz Hall in Pottsville against Philadelphia, with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He tallied two assists, including an alley-oop pass to
Anthony Selby (Jersey City, N.J./Williamstown (Burlington County CC)) in the final minutes.
Tynell Fortune (Blakeslee, Pa./Pocono Mountain West (California (PA))) scored 12 points, made all eight of his free throws, and dished out a game-high six assists for his third 5+ game of the year. He is 19 points shy of 1,000 in his career entering Wednesday's homecoming game for Fortune at California (PA).
Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) and
Tracy Peal Jr. (Drexel Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) each scored eight points, as Beidelman tallied four assists and two steals.
Kutztown shot 18-for-22 (.818) from the free throw line for the team's third game this season shooting over 80 percent at the line. KU took care of the ball by limiting itself to single-digit turnovers for the first time this season (9), while forcing 14 from Seton Hill.
Kutztown went on a 14-0 run in the opening portion of the game to take a 10-point, 18-8 lead midway through the first half. KU featured six different scorers during the run and held Seton Hill scoreless on five field goal attempts with four turnovers. The visitors never trailed again.
KU held the lead for the remainder of the half as it led 36-31 at the break. It made all 10 of its free throws in the first half.
The Golden Bears built their first double-digit lead of the second half with a 12-2 run spanning more than seven minutes to hold a 58-45 lead with 7:32 to play. KU held Seton Hill without a field goal during the entire run as KU's
Rell Sherman (Philadelphia, Pa./Olney West (Manor Junior College)) made a significant impact on both ends of the floor while adding four points.
The Griffins (1-6, 1-4) had four double-digit scorers. Noah Davis scored 15 points, but was limited to just three in the second half. Kameron Taylor and Damjan Sredanovic each scored 12, as Sredanovic only tallied four in the second half. David Windsor finished with 10 points off the bench.
Kutztown looks to extend its winning streak to seven on Wednesday, Dec. 17, when it travels to California University (PA) for another PSAC Crossover game set for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff.
