MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team wrapped up an 11-game road trip on Saturday afternoon, but came out with a 3-1 loss to Millersville University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division battle from Pucillo Gymnasium.
Kutztown (9-7, 3-6 PSAC E) fell just short in the first set, 26-24, but rebounded in the second with a 25-22 win. Millersville (9-8, 3-6) wrapped up the match with a 25-16 win in the third set, and a 25-21 victory in the fourth.
KU earned its win in the second set, as the two teams went back-and-forth with eight tie scores and four lead changes. The second set featured Kutztown's best attacking percentage (.263).
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) and
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) both recorded season-highs in the match. Stringer tallied a game-high three solo blocks to go with one block assist and Brake led both teams with 26 digs.
Stringer and
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) co-led the offense with 10 kills, with Stringer hitting a solid .364 percent.
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) contributed seven kills,
Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic) added six, and
Cara Reilly (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had five.
Zielinski notched four blocks of her own, and commited no errors in the attack game.
Braga ranked second on the squad behind Brake with 17 digs, while
Carly Shortridge (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) and
Emily Kopinski (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) tallied nine each, and
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) secured seven. Conti put up a game-high 36 assists. Shortridge and Braga recorded the only aces for the Golden Bears.
Erin Harman led the Marauder attack with 19 kills. Mary Paul added 11, while Kayla Wallace and Katie Lesinski threw down 10 apiece.
The Maroon and Gold return home this Tuesday, Oct. 7 for a non-conference matchup against Wilmington at 7 p.m. It is just the second game on Keystone Court so far this season for the Golden Bears.
