Photo Gallery KUTZTOWN, Pa. – After coming out with a strong performance in the opening set, the Kutztown University women's volleyball team wasn't able to regain the momentum Tuesday night, as the Golden Bears dropped a 3-1 decision to Wilmington University in a non-conference match from Keystone Arena.
Kutztown (9-8) came out hot in the first set and rallied for a 29-27 victory. The Golden Bears nailed 17 kills with only two errors for a .405 attack percentage.
Wilmington (9-11) took the wind out of KU's sails in the second set with a 27-25 win. The Wildcats executed late runs in the third to win 25-19. After a six-point run in the fourth set to open up the scoring to 17-10, WU was able to take the match in four (25-20).
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a solid night playing out of the middle, recording her second-highest attack percentage this season (.522). The junior tallied 13 kills, also her second-best this season, with only one error, while leading the team with five blocks.
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) also notched 13 kills on the night, and contributed three assists and three blocks.
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) was the final Golden Bear with 10-plus kills and added seven digs.
Freshman
Cara Reilly (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had her second-best kills output this season with nine, while
Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic) added four kills and four blocks on the defensive front.
Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) notched three kills and 10 digs in two sets played.
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) recorded 30 assists while splitting time with
Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) (15 assists) at the setter position, and led the team with 18 digs (second-highest this season).
Kim Groff (Audubon, Pa./Methacton (Moravian)) came in to tally 17 digs and lead the team with two aces.
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) also saw time at libero, recording 16 digs.
The Golden Bears head out west for conference crossover action this weekend. KU will face Clarion and Seton Hill at Clarion on Friday, Oct. 10, followed by California (PA) and Indiana (PA) at Indiana on Saturday.
