KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team went up against one of the top teams in the country on Tuesday night and dropped a 4-2 decision to second-ranked West Chester University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at University Field at Andre Reed Stadium.
The Golden Bears (7-8, 5-6 PSAC) fell into an early 2-0 hole in the opening 10 minutes against West Chester (13-2, 10-1). Kutztown junior
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) scored her team-leading 15th goal of the year off a crossing pass from
Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) in the 23rd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Trailing by one in the second half, West Chester answered with another two goals within three minutes of each other to open the game to 4-1. Kutztown's
Rayann Fink (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) scored off a penalty corner in the final minutes to cap the scoring of Tuesday night's conference game.
West Chester out-shot Kutztown, 26-10, yet KU held an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners. KU goalkeeper
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) tallied 12 saves, as West Chester's Sarah Krause picked up the win with five saves.
The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday, Nov. 1 for an early 11 a.m. game at Seton Hill University. KU took down the Griffins 4-2 earlier this season.
