Photo GalleryKUTZTOWN, Pa. – On the opening night of homecoming weekend, the Kutztown University women's volleyball team dropped Cheyney University in straight sets on its home court in Keystone Arena in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.
Kutztown defeated the Wolves (1-21, 0-15 PSAC) by scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-13 to improve to 10-12 overall on the season, and 4-10 in the conference.
Upperclassmen
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury),
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley),
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)), and
Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) carried the weight of the Golden Bear attack on Friday night. Stringer led the way with 11 kills on an efficient .588 attack percentage. Van Buren and York tallied eight kills each, while combining for 14 digs on the defensive side. Braga finished with seven kills and picked up the only solo block for KU on the night.
Setter
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) dished out 41 assists, along with nine digs and two aces. Libero
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) led the defensive unit with 13 digs.
Redshirt freshman
Abbe Ahern (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) picked up a career-high four blocks, while adding a kill and an assist to the offensive effort.
Back-line fixtures
Emily Kopinski (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and
Carly Shortridge (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) combined for five aces and five digs.
The Maroon and Gold have embarked on a seven-game home stretch, picking back up tomorrow, Oct. 18 with a PSAC matchup against West Chester University at 3 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
