Box Score

Slippery Rock 69, Kutztown 61 (HTML Box Score)

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Up by three points at halftime, the Kutztown University women's basketball team missed its first nine shots from the field in the second half, setting the pace for Slippery Rock University to gain advantage and grab the home victory from Morrow Field House, 69-61, in the final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game of the season.

Kutztown (5-8) shot just 2-for-17 from the field in the first 10 minutes of the second half, allowing Slippery Rock (3-11) to grab the largest lead of the game for either team up to that point (46-38). Kutztown rallied to bring the score back within three, but The Rock responded with a 16-6 run to give them a 13-point advantage (62-49) with four minutes left to play. The Golden Bears managed two more three-pointers in the closing minute by Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) and Jess Harvey (Barnegat, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven Regional), but Slippery Rock's near-perfect free-throw shooting was enough to hold off for the eight-point victory.

Junior Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) still managed to record a double-double in the defeat, her third this season, knocking down 12 points and leading the team with 11 rebounds. Lee was the leading scorer for the Golden Bears with 15, her highest since the season-opener, with 11 of those points coming in the second half. In addition, Lee grabbed eight boards (four offensive), while leading the team in both assists (4) and steals (5), which ties a career-high.

Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) was the third and final Golden Bear to hit double-figures, scoring 12 points on 4-for-5 shooting. The junior also went 4-for-5 from the free-throw line and recorded a game-high two blocks.

Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) managed six points off the bench, while Nicole Donahue (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) brought down six rebounds.

D'Asia Chambers had the hot hand for Slippery Rock, leading all players with 25 points and 15 rebounds. The junior forward shot 8-for-12 from the field and a near-perfect 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. Jazyme Frost also hit double-figures for the home team with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Kutztown outshot its opponent in the first half, but a 10-for-32 performance from the field in the second half resulted in a 34.8 shooting percentage on the game. KU also struggled from beyond the arc (4-for-15) and from the free-throw line (11-for-19), but did win the battle in both steals (12-9) and blocks (4-2).

The remainder of the regular season for the Maroon and Gold will consist of all PSAC Eastern Division opponents, starting with a home contest against Cheyney University this Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m. from Keystone Arena.
