Morning Sweep Highlights Women's Volleyball PSAC Crossover Finish

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team completed the Mountain East / Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover Tournament Saturday evening with a 2-1 record on the weekend.
 
Game One
 
Kutztown 3, West Virginia State 0 (HTML Box Score)
 
The Golden Bears (4-2) increased their winning streak to the three games after a 3-0 sweep over West Virginia State University (3-3) Saturday morning.
 
In the first set, KU demonstrated efficiency with only three errors on 13 kills, taking the set 25-18. WVSU fell behind in the second set with 10 errors on eight kills, stepping aside for the Golden Bears to take the win 25-17. KU continued to keep up the challenge through the third set, ultimately taking the win 25-19.

Junior Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) delivered an assault on the Yellow Jackets, leading KU up on the net with 11 kills and 4 blocks.
 
Also swatting down the Yellow Jackets, Liama Goodrich (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) recorded seven kills, followed by Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) with five.

Junior Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) put the Golden Bears ahead with two service aces, and led on the floor tied with freshman Morgynn McKenzie (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) with 12 digs.
 
Freshman setter Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) recorded 27 assists, as well as three kills.
 
Game Two
 
Fairmont State 3, Kutztown 0 (HTML Box Score)
 
In its final match of the Mountain East / PSAC Crossover Tournament Saturday night, the Kutztown University women's volleyball team fell to Fairmont State University 3-0.
 
The Golden Bears (4-3) showed great capabilities on the offensive front during the first set, recording only one error on 12 kills. The Fighting Falcons (6-1) capitalized on 16 kills throughout the set, however, to take the lead 25-19.

In the second set, the Golden Bears bulked up their defense to the onslaught of 12 kills by FSU, and kept their heads in the game to come within seven points, but ultimately fell 25-18.
 
Roles were reversed in the third set, however, as FSU recorded 12 kills with only one error, taking the game 25-9.
 
Conti led on the floor in both assists (19) and digs (8), while Goodrich led on the net with eight kills, followed by Braga and Stringer tied for five kills each.
 
Van Buren recorded four blocks, but the KU defense fell short of the Fighting Falcons' 38 kills, led by Bri Swann (15).
 
The Golden Bears return to action when they travel to Wheeling, W. Va., to compete in the Wheeling Jesuit & West Liberty Co-Host Invitational Friday, Sept. 20, through Saturday, Sept. 21.
