Five Golden Bears Score Against Edinboro on Senior Day

KUTZTOWN, Pa. –  Following the honoring of six seniors of the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team, the Golden Bears took the lead in the first half of play against Edinboro University Saturday afternoon at Keystone Field, but fell in a second half turnaround 11-6.
 
The Golden Bears (6-6, 2-5 PSAC) had an early advantage, taking a 4-0 lead over the Fighting Scots (2-9, 1-6) with goals by Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township), Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp), Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon), and Brielle Dickey (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township).
 
KU goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) had six saves before the Fighting Scots found the back of the net halfway through the first period. Edinboro scored again three minutes later to come within two goals of KU.
 
The Golden Bears and the Fighting Scots each scored again before the end of the first half, including a goal by Gina Carmina (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive), taking the teams into the second period with KU in the lead 5-3.
 
Edinboro quickly caught up with KU in the beginning of the second half with two unanswered goals, until Carmina scored the sixth and final goal for KU seven minutes into action to break the 5-5 tie. The Fighting Scots then turned the game around and scored six more goals throughout the half to win 11-6.
 
The Golden Bears displayed accuracy finishing 3-for-5 in free position attempts, and had 12 of the total 16 shots being on goal.
 
McLaughlin finished with a total of 18 saves, while the Fighting Scots had 36 shots, 29 of which were on goal. Edinboro had 11 draw controls to KU's 8.

Before the game, Kutztown honored the career's of Carmina, Kelsey Hogan (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), Katie Feairheller (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City), Randy Vite (Highland Mills, NY/Monroe-Woodbury), Marisa Kalodner (Havertown, PA/Haverford), and Emily Savini (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) for senior day.

The Golden Bears return to action Tuesday, April 16 when they travel to Philadelphia University for a 4:30 p.m. start.
