SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team fell to Converse College 6-3 on Tuesday evening in the first game of the season.

The Golden Bears (0-1) made the first strike with a free position goal by Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp) with 17:58 remaining in the half.

The Valkyries (6-5) responded with a spin move by Jordy Taylor from behind the cage to create space for a shot and goal with 9:42 remaining. Converse maintained possession to score again at the 8:18 mark when Chelsea Worrell benefited from a quick pass from Sam Green, breaking the tie.

With only one second remaining in the first half, Worrell scored the third goal for the Valkyries with an assist by Brooke Bondurant, to go into halftime leading 3-1.

Converse scored two more goals in the beginning of the second half before the Golden Bears took back the offensive momentum.

Gina Carmina (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) had two shots within seconds in the 44th minute, both saved by Converse's Alexandra Gurecki, but with 14:26 to play, Buffolino found the back of the net to score the second goal for KU, bringing the score to 5-2.

Green made the final goal for Converse with 10:29 remaining, but the Golden Bears weren't finished.

A caused turnover by Buffolino led to Cara Lord (Media, PA/Penncrest) scoring the third and final goal for KU off an assist by Katie Feairheller (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) with 7:54 remaining in the game.

KU goalkeeper JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) finished with eight saves, and Taylor Stone (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) tied with Buffolino for the lead with three shots.
