SALEM, VA – The bat's stayed hot on Saturday for the Kutztown University softball team as it stretched its winning streak to five with a pair of wins on the second day of the Salem Tournament. Kutztown defeated Shepherd University 10-2 in the first game in five innings, and Seton Hill University 9-0 in the second game in six innings.

The Golden Bears (8-2) had three players record a multi-hit game in Kutztown's 10-2 win over the Rams (7-13). Leadoff hitter
Morgan Booth (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg) went 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored a game-high three runs. Senior catcher
Katie Lynch (Willow Street, PA/Lampeter-Strasburg) also went 2-for-3 at the plate. Freshman right fielder
Rachel Lawes (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin) was a perfect 2-for-2 while scoring two runs and knocking in two.
Kutztown wasted no time picking up where it left off Friday night. It plated two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead.
Colleen Smith (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip (Hofstra)) hit her team-leading fourth double of the season to score
Maria Isgro (Galloway, NJ/Absegami), who reached on an infield single to start the inning. An error by the Shepherd right fielder scored KU's second run.
Shepherd cut the lead to one with a run in the third, but Kutztown responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Booth hit her second home run of the season, scoring Lawes who hit a two-RBI single the previous at-bat.
The Golden Bears tacked on two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game with no outs in the fifth. Senior
Brianna Knipe (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) hit a two-RBI single to right field in the fourth, and junior
Jackie Hetzler (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) ended the game with a two-RBI single to right field in the fifth.
Sophomore
Mary Kociencki (Columbia, N.J./Sparta ) picked up the win for Kutztown. After relieving starter
Dominique Ficara (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional (Hofstra)) in the third, Kociencki did not allow a run and had three strikeouts while pitching the final three innings.
Shepherd was led by Savannah Snyder's 2-for-3 outing at the plate. Shanan Plunkett and Bianca Biondilla had the Rams' two RBI. Pitcher Tiffany Biggs picked up the loss as she allowed six runs over 2.2 innings and allowed eight hits.
KU-Seton Hill Recap
Kutztown's top two hitters in the lineup knocked in seven of Kutztown's nine runs in its 9-0 victory over Seton Hill. Hetzler hit her first home run of the season with a solo shot in the first inning. It was part of a 2-for-2, four-RBI outing for the junior. Booth had a game-high three hits with three RBI from the leadoff spot.
Kociencki pitched a complete game shutout, her second of the season. In six innings on the mound, she allowed just four hits and struck out four Griffins while walking one. She retired the first four batters she faced.
After putting Kutztown on the board in the first, Hetzler drove in KU's second run with a sacrifice fly in the third to give KU a 2-0 lead.
Kutztown broke the game open with five runs in the fifth. Booth hit an RBI single to score

Booth ended the game with one out in the sixth with a two-RBI single to center field, scoring Schauder and Knipe.
Seton Hill's (1-4) Christine Henderson went 2-for-3 for two of its four hits of the game. Pitcher Kaitlyn Kutchman let up seven of the nine runs before being pulled after the fifth inning. She let up seven of Kutztown's 10 hits and struck out two batters.
The Golden Bears wrap up the Salem Tournament with two games on Sunday, March 17. They will play Massachusetts Lowell at 9 a.m. and West Virginia Wesleyan at 1 p.m.
