Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University's Tracy Peal scored a career-high 24 points, but Shippensburg outlasted the Golden Bears 70-66 in PSAC East action.
The freshman, who reached 20 points for the second straight game, went 9-of-18 from the floor and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe. He also grabbed seven rebounds and had two blocks.
The game was tightly contested all evening with 15 ties and lead changes during the contest, including 11 during the second half.
KU led by two after a layup by
Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) with 2:31 to play, but Shippensburg made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch to take the game.
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) had 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting and had three steals before fouling out. Fraction also added 14 points and dished out five assists.
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) went 3-of-8 from three-point range on his way to 10 points.
Kenny Battle (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter) added six rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Sam Pygatt hit 7-of-9 field goals en route to a Shippensburg best 20 points. Dylan Edgar netted 17 points. Reggie Charles added 13 and Tyhiem Perrin piched in with a dozen. Charles led all players with seven assists and Edgar grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
After Shippensburg hit 65 percent from the field in the first, Kutztown tightened its defense and held the Raiders to just 9-of-25 shooting in the second half.
KU was 21-of-25 from the free throw line in the game (84 percent).
The loss snapped Kutztown's two-game win streak and dropped the Golden Bears into a tie for fifth in the PSAC East standings.
KU travels to nationally ranked East Stroudsburg on Feb. 9.
