Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University's
Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) turned in his fourth 30-point game of the year, but the Golden Bears could not overcome a 29-7 West Chester run to open the game as WCU claimed a 96-67 win in PSAC East action.
The Golden Rams built their early lead in the opening nine minutes as KU came out cold and used a big advantage on the glass to earn numerous second chances on the offensive end.
Kutztown shot just 23 percent in the first half, compared to 54 percent for West Chester.
In the second half, KU went on a 19-7 run that pulled the Golden Bears within 18 points after a three by
Kenny Battle (Philadelphia, PA/Imhotep Charter) made it 64-46 with 11:32 to play in the game. A jumper by Jaleel Mack and two free throws by Jon Breeden halted the Kutztown run.
Fraction finished with 30 points and hit 14-of-17 from the foul line, making more free throws than the entire West Chester team.
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to match his career highs in both points and rebounds. It was his third double-double of the year.
Tracy Peal added a dozen points and eight boards.
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) was held to just two points, but added eight rebounds and team highs of six assists, three blocks and four steals.
Harrison Johnson (Philadelphia, PA/School of the Future) played a career-high 11 minutes and notched his first career points with a pair of first half free throws.
West Chester outrebounded the Golden Bears 56-36 in the game and held a 48-28 advantage in points in the paint and outscored KU 27-13 on second chance points.
Mack led WCU with 16 points, Troy Hockaday netted 13 and Breeden chipped in with 10. Harley Williamson came off the bench for 12 points.
Matt Wisley grabbed 11 rebounds and Corey Blake added 10.
Kutztown hosts Millersville on February 16 at 3 p.m. at Keystone Arena.
