Campbell Sets School Record with Program's First Triple-Double as Kutztown Falls to West Chester

Box Score

West Chester 83, Kutztown 81 (HTML Box Score)

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) became the first Golden Bear to record a triple-double in program history, including a school record 10 blocks, as the Kutztown University women's basketball team fell in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup to West Chester University, 83-81, in the final seconds on Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.

Campbell recoded three blocks in the first half, and seven in the second to set the school record for blocks in a single game, originally set by Becky Savage in 2002. It also tied her for fifth in a single game in PSAC history. Campbell was all over the court and put on a phenomenal performance against WCU picking up 11 points, 15 rebounds to tie her career-high, and 10 blocks to be the first to pick up a triple-double. She also added seven steals.

Freshman Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) led Kutztown with a team-high 23 points. Altomare went 6-for-8 from the three-point line, one shy from tying the single-game record set by Amanda Zinboile with seven. It also marked the most points by a Kutztown freshman since Tricia McElmoyle scored 26 in her season-opener against Columbia Union in 2005.

West Chester had an early 18-0 run and led for the entirety of the first half. The Golden Bears trailed at the half 47-40 after seven unanswered points by Elisa Gaffney (Downingtown, Pa./Coatesville) were not enough for KU to get the lead.

Kutztown trailed in the second half early, but recovered to tie the game 65-65 when Altomare scored her fourth of six made three-pointers, assisted by Campbell, before two good free throws by Altomare put KU up 67-65.

West Chester inched its way back when Kendall Benovy and Brittany Sicinksi hit one layup a piece to lift WCU up 71-70. Another three-pointer from the far wing by Altomare closed the five-point deficit that West Chester created to make it 73-75 as the Golden Rams still led.

With eight seconds left in the game, Altomare hit her final three that brought the crowd to their feet. Trailing 80-83, she was fouled on another attempt, sending her to the line for three, but was only able to convert one free throw.

The Golden Rams had 31 second chance points to Kutztown's 19. West Chester was led by Dallas Ely, 25 points, with three good three-pointers, while Brittney Sicinski had 17, and Kendall Benvoy with 12. WCU shot 61.5 percent from the free throw line, 23.1 percent beyond the arc, and 43.4 percent from the field.

Altomare led the way for Kutztown, with Jess Harvey (Barnegat, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven Regional) adding 13, and Campbell with 11. KU shot 42.9 percent from the field, 45 percent beyond the arc, and 70.6 at the free throw line.

This is the first time this season the Golden Bears scored 81 points in a game. The last time the Golden Bears scored more than 80 points was in a win against West Chester in the PSAC Championships last season.

Next up, the Golden Bears will travel to Clarion for a PSAC crossover match on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m.
