KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Come support the Kutztown University women's basketball team this Wednesday, Nov. 20 and help in the fight against hunger as the Kutztown Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is sponsoring a canned food drive at Keystone Arena for the first home game of the basketball season.
The Golden Bears (1-2) will be squaring off against the University of Sciences in Philadelphia at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's team taking on Wilmington at 7:30 p.m. The Student Athletic Advisory Committee will be collecting canned food items throughout the night to help in the fight against hunger.
The KU women's team earned its first victory of the season this past weekend with a 75-71 comeback win against Philadelphia University. Junior guard
Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) finished as the leading scorer for Kutztown, draining 17 points on 6-for-12 shooting. Bonenberger was also second on the team with eight boards and four assists.
Kutztown is now 1-2, and will look to reach .500 on Wednesday against a solid USP Devils team that has started their season 4-1.
Bonenberger has been a solid asset for the Golden Bears early on this season, leading the team with 42 points, while averaging eight rebounds and two assists per game.
Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) struggled shooting from the floor last game, but has still racked up 41 points in a team-leading 108 minutes. Lee has shown quick hands on defense, leading the team with eight steals, while also grabbing 18 rebounds.
Freshmen
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton),
Kara Funk (Dover, Pa./Dover), and
Jess Harvey (Barnegat, N.J./Rumson Fair-Haven Regional) have all been solid so far at the onset of their careers, and will continue to define their roles on the floor as the season progresses.
