WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team fell to fifth-ranked West Chester University, a 4-0 setback in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match on Wednesday at Vonnie Gros Field.
The Golden Bears (5-8, 2-5 PSAC) were unable to stop the Golden Rams (10-4, 5-2), controlled the first half and took an early lead on a goal from Stef Pirri in the first 11 minutes of action. Just two minutes later, Pirri would assist in the next goal for WCU when she sent the ball to Magan Callanan, and she put it past Kutztown's goalkeeper to propel West Chester to a 2-0 advantage. Pirri scored again in the 27th minute.
The final goal took place in the 32nd minute when Lauren McGinley received a ball from Kelsi Lykens and deflected the ball past KU's goalkeeper to give WCU the 4-0 victory.
The Golden Bears were able to keep WCU scoreless in the second half of play, despite the eight shot attempts by the Golden Rams.
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) and
Rachael Sanders (Fayetteville, Pa./Chambersburg (Limestone)) split the halves and registered three saves apiece.
Kutztown will return home on Friday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. for a non-conference matchup against seventh-ranked Limestone University. The two will meet for the first time since 2010 when the Golden Bears defeated the Saints 3-1.
