Seton Hill 3, Kutztown 1 (HTML Box Score)
KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team won its first set against Seton Hill University in the Friday evening match as part of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover Tournament hosted at Keystone Arena, but ultimately fell 3-1.
The Golden Bears (10-12, 4-7 PSAC) displayed high efficiency and frequency in their attack on the Griffins (19-5, 8-3 PSAC) throughout the first set, finishing with 18 kills and only four errors. Battling through six ties, the Golden Bears came out on top, taking the set 25-21.
SHU jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the beginning of the second set, creating a deficit the Golden Bears were unable to overcome as the Griffins took the set 25-9.
Seton Hill continued to improve their efficiency on the net in set three, recording 15 kills with only three errors. The Golden Bears continued to fight, meeting the Griffins on the scoreboard seven times before losing the set 25-16.
In the fourth and final set, SHU took a 12-0 lead at the start, and maintained their distance, taking the set 25-11.
Liama Goodrich (Birdsboro, PA/Daniel Boone) led the Golden Bear attack with 11 kills, trailed by Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) with 10. Brumbley and Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) also finished with three blocks each.
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) led on the floor with 19 digs, followed by Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) with 11. Conti also accumulated 31 assists.
The Golden Bears return to action tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 19, to continue play in the PSAC Crossover Tournament at Keystone Arena with a 10 a.m. match against Clarion University, and a 6 p.m. match against Indiana University (PA).
