Shippensburg 3, Kutztown 1 (HMTL Box Score) 

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team hosted the top team in the country in Shippensburg University Tuesday evening and scored one goal against the undefeated Raiders, but ultimately fell 3-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at University Field.
 
In their game against the Raiders (13-0 overall, 6-0 PSAC) earlier this season, the Golden Bears (5-6, 2-3) experienced their first setback of the year, and SU earned its first shutout victory, 3-0. This time around, however, KU displayed determination and was successful in finding the back of the net.
 
After Bre White scored on a penalty stroke in the 11th minute of action, followed by Ari Saytar scoring on a rebound in the following six minutes, KU was anxious to close the gap on the scoreboard with SU in the lead 2-0.
 
That moment came at 27:13 when freshman Jess Strohecker (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) took advantage of a rebound to score the first and only goal for the Golden Bears.
 
With less than two minutes remaining in the first half, the Raiders distanced themselves by two goals again with a score by Lauren Taylor, sending the teams to halftime with SU in the lead 3-1.
 
The second half ended scoreless as Shippensburg won the game 3-1.
 
The Raiders held the shot advantage with 25, 18 on goal, to KU's nine. The Golden Bears demonstrated efficiency when in control of the offensive advantage, however, making seven of their nine shots on goal.
 
KU goalkeeper Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) recorded 12 saves, while SU goalkeeper Careena Neely finished with five.
 
The Golden Bears return to action when they travel to Mansfield University on Saturday, Oct. 19, for a 12 p.m. start.
