Campbell's Double-Double Not Enough Against Cal

Box Score

KUTZTOWN, PA ---- Ryah Gadson scored a game-high 18 points, including a pair of key free throws in the waning seconds, as California (PA) held on for a 69-65 win over Kutztown in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) women's basketball match-up Friday night at Keystone Hall.

Leading 66-65 with 22 seconds remaining, Gadson went to the line and hit both shots to open the Vulcans lead to 68-65. The Golden Bears had a chance to tie the game on the next possession, but a three point attempt along the right baseline by Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) missed with 15 seconds to go. Cal's Elena Antoneka pulled down the rebound and the Vulcans ran the clock down to two seconds before KU could commit a foul. Stephanie Michael, who finished with 16 points, went to the line and hit the back end of her free throw attempts to conclude the scoring. Gadsen finished the night 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. Antoneka finished with a team-leading 11 rebounds.

The Golden Bears were led by Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape), who had a double-double with 16 points and a career-high matching 11 rebounds. Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford), who was honored during pre-game ceremonies for reaching 1,000 career points on Sunday, also had 16 points, while pulling down seven caroms. York chipped in 11 points.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair featuring eight lead changes and ending with a 34-32 Cal lead at intermission. There were six lead changes in the second half, despite the Vulcans opening up the biggest lead of the game, 43-36 with 17:41 remaining, after a trey by Michael. The Golden Bears would storm back, going on a 12-5 run to go up 48-47 with 12:18 remaining. Kutztown's final lead would come at the 4:46 mark, 58-57 after a lay-up by Wood.

With the loss, KU falls to 5-5, 3-3 in the PSAC East. California improved to 8-2, 4-2 in the PSAC West.

The Golden Bears will return to action Saturday night when they host Indiana (PA) in a PSAC contest. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
