SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Kutztown's Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) exploded for 18 points and 20 rebounds, but Slippery Rock defended its home court 66-60 against the Golden Bears.
 
Bonenberger shot 5-of-10 from the floor and also had two steals on her way to career-highs in points and rebounds.
 
Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) led Kutztown with 20 points on 7-of-17 shooting.
 
The Golden Bears trailed by as many as 16 in the second half , 46-30, after a three by Erinne Cunningham with 11:19 to play. 
 
Kutztown would go on an 11-3 run to cut the score to 49-41 and continued to chip away at The Rock's lead into the closing minutes. 
 
A layup by Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) cut it to 63-58 with 14 seconds to play, but a pair of free throws by Cunningham iced the win for Slippery Rock one second later.
 
Arianna Apostolopoulos (Yonkers, NY/Ursuline) dished out six assists and had three steals for KU.
 
Cunningham led all players with 23 points, while D'Asia Chambers had 12 points and 14 boards.  Emilee Vitz also reached double figures with 10 points. 
 
Slippery Rock outshot KU 41 percent to 33 percent, but the Golden Bears used a 16-9 advantage on points in the paint to stay in the game. 
 
The Golden Bears return to PSAC East action when they travel to West Chester on January 16 for a 6 p.m. tip off.
