Box Score 2 WILMINGTON, Del. – Kutztown dropped a pair of matches as the Golden Bears traveled took on University of the Sciences and College of Saint Rose at the Wildcat Invitational at Wilmington University. KU forced a fifth set against the Devils before falling 3-2. In the nightcap, Saint Rose bested the Golden Bears 3-1.
Against Sciences, Kutztown dropped the first two sets, 25-23 and 25-14, but rebounded to force a fifth set. KU won 25-16 and 25-22 in the third and fourth sets before the Devils claimed a 15-7 win in the final set for the victory.
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) and
Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) had 11 kills each to lead KU.
Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) had a double-double with 25 assists and 11 digs.
Emily Heppler (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) led the squad with 13 digs, while
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) added 11 digs to go with nine kills.
The Golden Bears' blocking was strong all night as the team had 19 total blocks. Brumbley led the team with six,
Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) and
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) had four each and
Kelsey Kromer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) pitched in with three.
For Sciences, Kaileen Bevenour dished out 57 assists and Amanda DeAngleo led the team with 23 kills.
The Golden Bears started strong in the day's second match, winning the first set 25-22, but Saint Rose took the next three to win, 25-20, 25-19, 25-21.
Braga and Harman tied for the team lead with eight kills for Kutztown. Braga matched Heppler with 14 digs, while Harman added 13. Risch had three blocks and Gomber paced the squad with 14 assists.
Three players had 14 kills apiece for Saint Rose.
The Golden Bears will look to rebound with matches against Pace and Concord on September 8.
