Field Hockey Tops Lindenwood, 4-1

Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The no. 7 Kutztown University field hockey team concluded its weekend in Kentucky with a 4-1 win over Lindenwood on Monday afternoon. Senior Emily Labowitz (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Lower Merion) had a strong performance, scoring two goals, while senior Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) had a goal and two assists.

The Golden Bears used a three-goal first half to take control of the game and never look back. Just over 12 minutes into the contest, Gregory put KU on the board off a redirected shot from senior Imani Ferguson (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape). Eight minutes later, at the 20:13 mark of the first, Gregory was back at it again, finding an open Labowitz in front of the net to make the score 2-0. To close out the half, Gregory put a shot on net that rebounded out to Ferguson who notched her first goal of the season.

Down by three goals, Lindenwood's comeback fell short as just one of its seven second-half shots found the back of the net. The Lady Lions' Kristi O'Connor picked up a loose ball in the Kutztown end and fired a shot on goal for their only score on the day.

In the 47th minute of action, Labowitz scored her second of the day, ensuring the Golden Bears second victory in as many games.

Senior Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) picked up her second win of the season, playing just the first half, seeing no shots on goal. Freshman Kayla Dehlinger relieved her of her duties in the second, making two saves and allowing one goal. Credited with the loss for Lady Lions was Victoria Gil who made eight saves and gave up four goals.

The Maroon and Gold held an advantage in shots, 17-11, and registered eight corners to Lindenwood's six.

With a 2-0 start to the season, the squad will stay on the road for its next match-up when it travels to Mansfield to open up PSAC play. The game is slated for a noon start.
