Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) made four saves, but the Golden Bear field hockey team lost by a score of 2-0 at Mercyhurst on Friday afternoon.
The Lakers opened up the scoring midway through the second half when Marissa Faso collected a loose ball in front of the cage and scored the first goal of the game to give MU a late advantage.
Following the Lakers goal, the Maroon and gold picked up the pressure getting a few late opportunities but could not convert. With nine minutes left in regulation, MU's Meghan Smith crossed a ball for Kelsey Lovelace who netted the only other gold of the game as Mercyhurst extended its lead to 2-0.
Waltman finished the contest making four saves picking up the loss, while Mercyhurst's Jess Wess grabbed the win tallying five stops.
Mercyhurst held an advantage in shots, 14-6, and posted 12 penalty corners to KU's nine, six of which came in the second half.
Up next for the Golden Bears, they will stay in western Pennsylvania to face Slippery Rock for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday.
