Box Score

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team dropped its first night game of the season to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opponent Bloomsburg, 6-1, on Tuesday at University Field. Freshman Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) scored the Golden Bear's lone goal of the evening.

The Huskies took advantage of a slow start by Kutztown, putting up four goals in the first half as they blanked the Maroon and Gold. On her way to a hat trick, BU's Brooke Simonovich scored her first two goals of the game in the first 16 minutes to grab a two-goal lead. Goals from Jenna DISabatino and Kara Hartman in the final 11 minutes of the first helped to carry a four-goal advantage into the break.

The Golden Bears got on the board six minutes into the second frame when Behm notched her fourth goal of the season to tie for the team lead with seniors Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Emily Labowitz (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Lower Merion). Despite the early second half goal, it was not enough to muster a comeback as Bloomsburg added two more from Simonovich and Amber Aulenbach, making the final 6-1.

Bloomsburg held an advantage in the shot department, 26-14, while they were also awarded 10 penalty corners to KU's seven.

Taking the loss in net for KU was senior Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) who made eight saves and now moves to 3-6 on the year. Picking up the win for the Huskies was Megan Epply who improves to 9-1 on her four-save effort.

Up next for the Maroon and Gold, it will hit the road for three straight games against Mercyhurst (9/28), Slipper Rock (9/29) and West Chester (10/3).
