Pica, Schwar, Solt Look to Go Out on a High Note Thursday

KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team will close out the 2012 season schedule this Thursday against West Chester in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown at Keystone Field.

Game time for the PSAC matchup with West Chester is set for 4pm.

The Golden Bears (4-12 overall, 1-9 PSAC) are excited for the challenge of the eighth-ranked Golden Rams (13-2, 8-2), as KU will look to play spoiler to finish out their season.  Kutztown has accomplished a program goal earlier this season by collecting the programs first PSAC victory when it overtook Edinboro, 11-10 on Apr. 7. The next goal is to take a game from one of the top teams in the league, and West Chester fits the profile.

“We play really well against solid teams in the conference and I have very high hopes against West Chester,” commented head coach Sarah Greer on her upcoming match against the Golden Rams.  “If we play together and continue to play offensively and defensively for the entire game, there is no reason why we can't beat West Chester.”

If anyone on the KU squad is looking to make a late season push, it's the three seniors who will be performing for the last time in a KU jersey.  Leeann Pica (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy), Megan Schwar (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) (Alpha, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Emily Solt (Bowmanstown, PA/Concord) (Bowmanstown, Pa./Concord) are going into their final match with the utmost confidence and plan to leave everything they have left on the field.

“We want to simply play them and leave the field knowing we played our best,” mentioned Solt.  “We plan on leaving everything we have left on that field.”

The three seniors have really stepped up this season and have helped send KU lacrosse in a positive direction.

Pica has powered the Kutztown offense with her 29 points by netting 23 goals. She has also assisted for six KU goals this season. Pica has been on fire as of late, as she has scored seven goals in her last five games.

Schwar has done her part and is making a huge impact to the squad with her unselfish play.  She leads the team with nine assists.  She has changed her game this season and is a player you can't leave open.  The Alpha, N.J. native has also scored 17 goals this season, which is a career-high. Schwar will look to further improve those marks in her final game.

Solt is another senior who has stepped up as a team leader and kept the maroon-and-gold focused all season.  Solt has been a scoring threat alongside her two fellow seniors.  She has 20 points and 18 goals in her senior campaign.

West Chester enters the game ranked second in the PSAC, and is coming off a win over fifth-ranked C.W. Post. Tori Dugan has led the pack this season with 68 overall points.  Of those 68 points, Dugan has worked in 37 goals and 31 assists. Dugan's 31 assists place her eleventh in the country.

The three KU seniors have deeply enjoyed their stay at Kutztown and all will graduate this May.  All three agreed that the one time that sticks out the most in their careers was achieving that first PSAC win a few weeks ago. They have made a great impression on the program that will be used as the pavement to future KU lacrosse success.
