KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Saturday marked the final weekend game for three members of the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team.
Leeann Pica (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy),
Megan Schwar (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg) and
Emily Solt (Bowmanstown, PA/Concord) (Bowmanstown, Pa./Concord) were each honored before the game against Lock Haven at Keystone Field. Lock Haven bested the Golden Bears, 14-6.
The Golden Bears (4-12 overall, 1-9 PSAC) ran into one of the top teams in the country on Saturday. Not only is Lock Haven (11-4, 9-1) leading the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), it is ranked 10th in Division II.
Pica scored the first goal for KU. Unfortunately, it was after the Bald Eagles netted seven of their own in the first twenty minutes of play. The goal was Pica's 23rd of the season and 83rd of her career.
Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp) (Monroe Township, NJ/Monroe Township) led KU with three goals. The sophomore now has ten goals in her last three games.
Also scoring for the Golden Bears was freshman
Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township). Her goals came towards the end of each half as her first was with 15 seconds left in the opening intermission. She netted her second goal with 1:24 remaining in the game.
Emily Cilla and Chelsea Borrino paced Lock Haven with four goals apiece. Seven different players scored for LHU as it outshot KU, 29-17. Heather Sacko picked up the win in net.
Kutztown returns to action on Thursday, Apr. 26 for its final game of the season. Game time against West Chester University is set for 4 p.m. at Keystone Field.
