Golden Bears Fall at Shepherd

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd used an 8-0 run in the second half to break open a tie game and defeat Kutztown University 13-5 in non-conference women's lacrosse.

The Golden Bears (2-1) held a 3-2 lead midway thought the first half.  Nicole Ruane had put the Rams on the board first, but Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp) (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) and Emily Solt (Bowmanstown, PA/Concord) (Bowmanstown, Pa./Concord (Del.)) put KU on top 2-1 with 19:05 left in the half.  Georgia Karr tied it up with 17:27 to go, but just over a minute later, Katie Feairheller (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) took an assist from Krystine Beodeker (Dingmans Ferry, PA/Delaware Valley) (Dingmans Ferry, Pa./Delaware Valley) for a one goal lead.
 
Shepherd reeled off three straight goals and led 5-3 with 8:20 left before the break, but goals by Gina Carmina (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive) and Feairheller tied it up at the half.
 
The Rams scored all eight goals of the second half to pull away.         
 
Feairheller was the only Golden Bear to score more than once, with two goals.  Solt, Carmina and Buffolino all scored once, while Leeann Pica (Levittown, PA/Neshaminy) (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy), Beodeker and Lauren Schlitt (Baldwin, NY/Oceanside) (Baldwin, N.Y./Oceanside) all had assists.
 
Marisa Kalodner (Havertown, PA/Haverford) (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had four ground balls and two caused turnovers.  In addition to her assist, Schlitt added three ground balls and three draw controls. 
 
Alexis Williams (Woolwich Township, NJ/Kingsway) (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway) made 12 saves for KU.
 
Ruane scored five goals for the Rams, while Karr had four goals and an assist.  Christina Ferrara dished out three assists. 
 
Lily Schmulowitz was credited with seven saves for Shepherd. 
 
The Golden Bears host Bloomsburg on March 20 at 4 p.m.
