KUTZTOWN, Pa. (February 4, 2012)—The Kutztown University women's basketball team used all its efforts but fell to East Stroudsburg University in a riveting 56-52 double overtime Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division game, Saturday afternoon at Keystone Arena.
Sophomore
Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) was the only Golden Bear to score in double figures as she led KU with 17 points. Hodgson was 7-for-12 from the field and 3-for-4 from the line. She also grabbed nine rebounds. Hodgson along with freshman

Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) (Limerick, PA/ Spring-Ford) recorded eight points.
ESU placed three Warriors in double digits in scoring as Cyara Woodbridge led with 13 points. Andrea Veres and Ryann Fiascki finished with 12 and 13 points respectively. Jessica Martin grabbed a game-high 20 rebounds.
After three minutes of play in double OT, Veres put her team back on top 54-52 using a jumper with one minute, 52 seconds left. With Kutztown scoreless in double OT and 14 seconds remaining, Veres used a pair of free throw shots to seal the deal for the Warriors.
In the first OT period, Kutztown was up 52-50 with ten seconds remaining but a foul sent ESU's Fiascki to the line where she made both baskets to send the game into double OT.
The game featured eight lead changes and four ties with the most compelling one occurring in the second half with 4:53 remaining after Hodgson tied the game 43-43 with a layup. Hodgson, along with
Nicole Donahue (Wall, N.J./St. Rose) (Wall, NJ/ St. Rose) pushed the lead to four with consecutive field goals, pushing the game to 47-43 with 3:26 left in regulation. However ESU's Brittany McClain and Veres answered KU's attack after Veres hit a jumper and McClain sunk a 3-pointer to take the 48-47 lead. Campbell tied the game 48-48 after making one of her free throws with 29 seconds left in regulation.
Kutztown took a 25-23 lead at halftime and took its largest lead of the game with 17:30 left in the second half after a jumper from
Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, VA/ Godwin) and a big time 3-pointer from Wood pushed the Golden Bears to a 30-23 advantage. With 13:19 left, East Stroudsburg went on a 6-0 run initiated and charged by Woodbridge to pull ESU to a 41-34 lead with 8:40 remaining. Kutztown then reacted with its own 4-1 run to slice ESU's lead to 43-41 with 5:33 left.
Saturday's game also served as the Hooping for a Cure game. Men's and women's basketball teams from all 16 PSAC schools will participate in Hooping for a Cure during the month of February, which is part of a national breast cancer awareness and fundraising effort on behalf of the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association (WBCA).
Kutztown will take on a three-game road series beginning on Wednesday, Feb. 8 that features PSAC East games against West Chester, Millersville, and Cheyney.
