KU Hosts Bloomsburg on Senior Day as Greaves and LeVan are Honored

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (February 16, 2012)— Seniors Brittany Greaves (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) (Malvern, Pa/Great Valley) and Brittany LeVan (Centre Hall, PA/Penns Valley) (Centre Hall, Pa./ Penns Valley) of the Kutztown University women's basketball team are the ultimate definition of what friends are. Not only do they share their name, age, and favorite basketball player LeBron James, but their dedication and love for the game has unified a bond that has endured the tests of time.

The Golden Bears will face the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division leader, Bloomsburg University on Saturday, Feb. 18. Game time is set for 1 p.m. at Keystone Arena. Saturday's game will also serve as Senior Day.

Little did they know what they'd be getting into as freshman on a competitive, collegiate athletic team. The idea of adjusting to new people, attitudes, and a whole new world can be frightening and even overwhelming but these two joined forces and since have been joined at the hip. Whenever you see one, you know the other isn't too far away.

As four year members of the basketball team the duo has grown together, mentally and emotionally in their careers at Kutztown.  As their roles on the team have changed over their years, the one thing that hasn't is their attitude.

“Our team is like a family and I've had so many great memories over the years,” LeVan said. “This year didn't go as planned but we had to do what was best for the team. I've had a blast being on this team and I'm going to leave here happy, still loving the game of basketball.”

Not seeing much time on the court their senior season, the pair continue to smile and cheer their teammates on. The 2011-12 season has been a bumpy road for the Golden Bears as they strive to find consistency on the floor. However the team's bond is undeniable and their efforts to persevere through the tough times are evident.

“Honestly, I'm so glad to have her as not only a friend or teammate, but sister,” Greaves said. “If I didn't have her by my side I don't think I would have made it through certain situations. We're each other's support system.”

Their friendship has accounted for endless memories and will strive to create more in the future. But when asked what Kutztown basketball memory the pair could relive it's no surprise that they picked the same occasion.

“During our sophomore year, we made it to the PSAC semifinal game against Gannon, and although we ended up losing it was a great season,” Greaves said. “That year was awesome.”

“I think that beating Bloomsburg to go into the Gannon game was a great memory,” LeVan said. “We had lost to them twice that season but beat them in the Final Four…that was one of our best wins. But playing Gannon in the semifinal was amazing. “

Smiles and laughter flushed their faces as they took a walk down memory lane. The twosome has established a friendship that has transformed into a bond that will never be broken. As three games remain in the 2011-12 KU season, both Greaves and LeVan are beginning to tap into the next chapter of their lives.

There's no coincidence that the pair are each attending graduate school after graduation or that they both are science majors. LeVan will be graduating with a chemistry education degree while Greaves will graduate with a biology degree. I'm sure that it'll be no coincidence if the dynamic duo ends up attending the same graduate school as these two are simply inseparable.
