Box Score ERIE, Pa. – Kutztown University's
Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) poured in a game-high 20 points, but an overpowering run by Mercyhurst to open the second half lifted the Lakers to a 76-64 win in PSAC action.
Fraction had 11 of his 20 in the first half as the Golden Bears went into the break with a 29-25 lead. Mercyhurst, however, outscored KU 24-6 over the first seven minutes after play resumed to go ahead 49-35.
Fraction hit 6-of-11 field goals and was 3-of-8 from behind the arc.
Tracy Peal turned in a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. He did much of his damage in the first half and was just a point shy of his double-double at the intermission with nine points and 10 boards. He went 5-of-9 shooting in the game.
Foul trouble for several Golden Bears provided opportunities for several bench players.
Anthony Butler (Chester, PA/Archbishop Caroll) scored a dozen points off the bench, going 3-of-5 from the field and 6-of-8 from the line.
Mamadou Diakite (Philadelphia, PA/Constitution) played just nine minutes, but scored seven points, fueled by a 5-of-6 effort from the free throw line.
It was a physical contest with the two teams combining for 49 fouls and 69 free throws. A total of three players fouled out on the afternoon.
KU hit 23-of-34 free throws (68 percent) and the Lakers sank 27-of-35 (77 percent).
Mercyhurst was able to capitalize off of Kutztown's turnovers holding a 21-7 advantage in points off turnovers.
Luis Leao scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Mercyhurst. He and Terrence Ingram combined for 25 second half points to fuel the Lakers' comeback. Ingram added 17 points. Beau Samuelson also reached double figures with 10 points.
The Golden Bears will look to get back in the win column on December 8 at Shippensburg.
