Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University could not overcome a 17-4 run by Clarion to open the second half as the Golden Bears fell 69-57 in a PSAC Crossover contest.
The Golden Bears led 30-21 after Tracy Peal scored the opening bucket of the second half, but the Golden Eagles came out firing and took a 38-32 lead with 14:48 to play. A three by
Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) and a three-point play by
Tyler Brooks (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) knotted the score at 38-38 with 13:58 to go.
Threes by Marques Jones and Anthony Baker knocked down threes for CU to rebuild the lead to six points and KU could not get closer than four the rest of the way.
Fraction led KU with 21 points, fueled by a 9-of-10 effort at the foul line.
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) picked up his first career double-double in the game. He scored 11 points, all in the first half, and pulled in a career-high 10 rebounds.
Brooks also finished with 11 points and hauled in seven rebounds while leading the team with three assists.
Leonard Patterson led four Clarion players in double digits with 18 points. Jones added 17, Calvin Edwards pitched in with 15 and Mike Kromka netted 11.
After shooting just 27 percent from the floor in the first half, the Golden Eagles hit their first six threes of the second half as their perimeter game ignited their comeback. CU finished 11-of-23 from beyond the arc (47 percent).
KU tried to stay in the game with a 30-18 advantage in the paint.
The Golden Bears will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday, December 19 against Lock Haven at Keystone Arena.
