Golden Bears Dominate Against American International

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – No. 18 Kutztown University picked up six bonus wins and a forfeit to roll past visiting American International 40-6 at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (1-1) benefitted from pins by Tony Farace (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) and Joe Bickelman (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville) in their first career dual matches and the other five KU wins came by a combined 65-13.
 
Ricky Pena (Reading, PA/Reading) clinched the team win with an 11-0 major decision in his bout at 174 over Michael Schulze.
 
Nick Lamoreaux (Bethesda, MD/Milton Hershey) accepted a forfeit at 125 to put Kutztown ahead 6-0 before anyone took the mat.  Farace followed by pinning AIC's Cody Candelaria in 2:59 to make it 12-0.
 
At 141, Brandon Davis (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) scored an 11-6 victory against George Lishke for a 15-0 advantage.
 
The Yellow Jackets' only win of the afternoon came at 149, where nationally ranked Christopher Hoffman was awarded a pin at the 5:25 mark, cutting the KU lead to 15-6.
 
From there, it was all Kutztown.  Matt Martoccio (Kintnersville, Pa./Council Rock South) notched a major decision with a 15-6 win over Brandon Walsh.  At 165, Bickelman needed just 1:17 to dispatch Zach Van Ess. 
 
The last four bouts all went to the Golden Bears, as well, as Pena, Giovanni Ortiz (Reading, PA/Reading), Vinny Campanile (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) and Ziad Haddad (Orefield, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (North Carolina)) combined to outscore their opponents 39-1.
 
After Pena clinched the team scoring, Ortiz picked up his first win of the year with a  12-0 major decision against Sheldon Rhoden at 184.
 
Vinny Campanile (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) outlasted Iarik Loshchinin at 197, scoring the bout's only point via riding time as KU led 36-6 entering the final match of the afternoon.
 
Haddad improved to 7-0 on the year after dismantling Andrew Paredes during a 15-1 major decision.

The match was KU's final tune up before hosting the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships on December 8.
