KU Falls at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – Kutztown's Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional), the PSAC East Freshman of the Week, scored 13 of her game-high 20 in the second half, but Gannon was still able to overcome a one-point halftime deficit to escape with a  66-59 win over the Golden Bears.
 
The KU defense limited Gannon (5-1) to just 8-of-28 shooting (29 percent) in the first half and went into the intermission ahead 24-23.  The Golden Bears (1-3) closed the half with a 17-7 run over the final 12:18 of the opening period, holding the Golden Knights to just 2-of-16 shooting with 11 turnovers.
 
Doriyon Glass scored just 14 seconds after play resumed as Gannon briefly went ahead 25-24, but five straight points by Lee put KU back on top 29-25 with 18:18 left in the game.  A 14-5 run by Gannon ensued and the Golden Knights went ahead 39-34 four minutes later and never trailed again. 
 
After an icy first half, Lee hit 5-of-8 in the second half to finish the afternoon 7-of-18 for 20 points.  She also hit three threes in the game, grabbed five rebounds and had three assists and two steals.
 
Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) and Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) joined Lee in double figures for Kutztown. Wood had 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while York went 4-of-8 from the floor on her way to 10 points and led the team with four steals.
 
Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) continued her strong work on the glass with 10 rebounds, her second double digit rebounding effort of the year. 
 
Jen Papich led Gannon with 17 points, while Glass added 13 and Brittany Batts and Kelsey McCoy pitched in with 10 apiece.  McCoy also grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. 
 
KU limited Gannon to just 32 percent shooting, but 22 offensive rebounds led to a 55-38 advantage on the backboards for the Golden Knights.
