Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University fought off a match point in the fifth set and went on to win 19-17 for a 3-2 final over West Chester.
KU trailed 16-15 in the fifth set, but tied the match on a kill by
Brianna Risch (Coatesville, PA/Coatesville) and then took the lead on an ace by
Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington). After the Golden Rams tied the game, they committed a pair of attacking errors as the Golden Bears claimed the match.
West Chester won the first set 25-22, but Kutztown had an opportunity for a four-set win after taking the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19. The Golden Rams, however, forced fifth set with a 25-16 win over KU in the fourth set.
Four players had double figure kills for Kutztown.
Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) had a double-double with 15 kills and 17 digs, as dig
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) with 13 kills and 21 digs.
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) added 14 kills and
Nicole Brumbley (Oxford, PA/Oxford) pitched in with 11 kills and five blocks.
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had nine kills, four assists, two aces, six digs and four blocks to fill up the stat sheet.
Gomber notched a double-double with 35 assists and 11 digs.
Emily Heppler (Newtown Square, PA/Marple Newtown) added 13 digs, while
Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) chipped in with 17 assists.
For West Chester, Lexi Kegerise had 17 kills and 20 digs. Mary Faust added 10 kills and 26 assists.
The match was KU's first home contest in 39 days.
The Golden Bears are back on the road to take on Cheyney on October 13 at 1 p.m.
