No. 14 UPJ Shuts Out Golden Bears

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Kutztown suffered its first dual loss of the season, as No. 14 Pitt-Johnstown dispatched the Golden Bears 35-0.

Kutztown kept seven of the bouts close as UPJ was able to win only three bonus victories on the night.

The match at 157 between Bionojel Candelaria (Reading, Pa./Middleton) and Myers Miller proved to be the most exciting of the evening, but a takedown by Miller in overtime lifted the Mountain Cat to a 12-10 win.

Evan Yenolevich (New Tripoli, PA/Northwestern Lehigh (Edinboro)) (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) at 133 and Mitch Voelker (Shoemakersville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) (Leesport, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) at 141 each had to wrestle the third-ranked wrestler in Division II in their weight class and lost only by hard fought decisions.  Yenolevich fell 6-3 to Ryan Link, while Voelker was downed 6-1 by Jack Bachman.

Chris Sheetz (Barto, PA/Upper Perkiomen) (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) made his season debut at 125, but fell 4-1 to David Fogle.  Vinny Campanile (Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley) (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley) fell just 4-2 at 197, while Brandan Clark (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) (Audubon, Pa./Methacton) nearly won at heavyweight, falling 2-1.

Pitt-Johnstown improved to 4-1 with the win, while KU dropped to 2-1.

Kutztown will look for better luck on Saturday, January 7 at Seton Hill at 11 a.m.  A match against No. 14 West Liberty State directly follows.
