EDINBORO, Pa. (January 6, 2012)—The Kutztown University women's basketball team fell to undefeated Edinboro University, 82-58 on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover game, earlier Friday evening at McComb Fieldhouse.
The Golden Bears (4-9 overall) slipped to 2-5 in the PSAC. The Fighting Scots (11-0 overall, 7-0 PSAC) are currently ranked seventh in the latest USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Coaches' Poll. Edinboro broke the all-time school record for the best start to a season with Friday's win.
Edinboro got off to a quick start and used several runs in the first half to limit the Golden Bears to 16 points. The Fighting Scots took a comfortable 31 point lead into intermission.
Kutztown improved in the second half, where it was 11-for-23 from the field (47.8%), but the Fighting Scots continued to move the ball and extend its lead.
Sophomore
Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, Va./Godwin) hit three 3-pointers in the second half alone. Sisson was 4-for-4 behind the arc. She finished with a team-high 12 points, that all came from 3-pointers. Sisson has continued to showcase her range throughout the season for KU. This was her seventh consecutive game finishing in double figures in scoring.
Junior
Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) (Limerick, Pa./ Spring-Ford) added eight points against Edinboro. She was perfect from the free throw line, making all four attempts. Wood also finished with at team-high six assists.
Freshmen
Keyla Pullen (Richmond, VA/Monacan) (Richmond, Va./ Monacan) and
Elisa Gaffney (Downingtown, Pa./Coatesville) (Coatesville, Pa./ Coatesville) came off the bench and recorded six points each. Kutztown's bench used its efforts to score 31 points.
KU did make its way to the foul line quite often and took advantage by hitting 22-of-30 (73.3%) shots.
Four Fighting Scots finished in double digits in scoring. Edinboro was led by Raven Metz who finished with 16 points. Metz was 6-for-8 from the field and 3-for-4 from the 3-point range.
Kiara Brown and Samantha Blazetic each added 14 points respectively, while Darche Jackson finished with 13 points.
KU's turnovers have been costly this season. Against Edinboro, KU gave up 30 points on 36 turnovers. Kutztown will have to control the ball more as it continues its journey through the PSAC.
Kutztown looks to make a quick turnaround as it travels to Lock Haven, Pa. for its final PSAC crossover game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Thomas Fieldhouse.
