Women’s Hoops Wraps Up Crossover Action

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team will wrap up the crossover portion of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schedule with a trip to No. 7 Edinboro and Lock Haven on January 6-7.
 
The Golden Bears face the Fighting Scots at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 6, and then head to Lock Haven for a 6 p.m. tip off on Saturday, January 7.  For fans unable to make the trip to western Pennsylvania, Edinboro will provide Live Stats and Streaming Audio.
 
KU will look to build off a resounding win over Lincoln (Pa.) on December 30 at Keystone Arena.  Kutztown dismantled the Lions 82-58 behind its best defensive effort since the 2008-09 season as they stifled Lincoln into just 15-of-68 shooting, 22 percent.  That was the best mark for Kutztown since they limited Columbia Union to 19 percent on December 17, 2008, a span of 90 games.
 
Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) led the offense with 23 points, including 19 in the first half as the Golden Bears built a big lead early.  Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) had career-highs with 12 points and eight rebounds.
 
Wood has led the team in scoring through the first half of the season, pouring in 14.9 points per game.  She has been efficient from both the three-point line and the charity stripe.  Beyond the arc, the junior guard is hitting 41 percent after nailing 15-of-37 attempts so far.  She is also shooting 79 percent from the free throw line on 34-of-43 shooting.  Her 17 steals are team high and Wood is second on the squad with 30 assists.
 
Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, Va./Godwin) has heated up from long range in recent games and is now hitting 42 percent and her 31 total made threes are second in the PSAC.  Over her past three games, she is 10-of-16 on from behind the arc, good for 63 percent.  She is second on KU at 12.4 ppg and the sophomore guard leads the team with 31 assists. 
 
Sophomore forward Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) (Surf City, N.J./Southern Regional) is the third player scoring in double figures for the Golden Bears at 10.4 ppg.  She has hit 43-of-46 free throws this season and ranks sixth in Division II at 94 percent.  She leads the team with 15 blocked shots and rates second on the team with 5.6 rebounds per game. 
 
Junior forward Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) leads the team and her 105 total rebounds are second in the PSAC, while her 8.8 rpg rank sixth.  She also chips in with 7.3 ppg.
 
Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) has started each of the past eight games and rounds out the starting five.  Campbell is the top scorer and rebounder off the bench. 
 
For the year, KU averages 62.3 ppg on 38 percent shooting, including 33 percent on threes.  The team ranks third in the conference in free throw percentage at 76 percent.
 
The Golden Bears will have their hands full with an Edinboro squad that has matched its highest ever national ranking after moving up to seventh in recent weeks.  The Fighting Scots feature a powerful offense that yields a PSAC-best 79 ppg and has propelled the team to a perfect 10-0 start.
 
Five different player average at least 10.5 ppg, led by Kiara Brown's 15.2 ppg.  Brown is hitting 39 percent from three-point distance and 83 percent from the foul line.  Her 25 steals are second on the team, as well.
 
Forward Samantha Blazetic averages 12.9 ppg on 55 percent shooting and leads the team in blocked shots with 21.  Her 6.2 rpg rates second on the team.  Renee' Brown is just behind Blazetic at 12.8 ppg and leads the team with 6.5 rpg.    
 
Raven Metz adds 10.8 ppg and a well-rounded player, shooting 49 percent from the field and 50 percent from beyond the arc.  She also adds 5.7 rpg, a team-high 3.6 assists per game and 21 steals. 
 
Darche' Jackson and Micki Cerchiaro have split time in the starting lineup.  Jackson averages 10.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg and 3.2 apg.  Cerchiaro, meanwhile, is third on the team at 6.0 rgp and has a team-leading 28 steals.
 
Lock Haven, however, has dropped four straight entering the weekend and sits at just 4-5 overall. 
Forward Peaches Nesmith has been a force for the Bald Eagles, averaging 17.6 ppg and 6.9 rpg.  She is shooting 46 percent from the field and 80 percent from the foul line and is also third on the team with 20 assists. 
 
Sharay Hall is second to Nesmith in both scoring and rebounding with averages of 11.2 ppg and 6.0 rpg.  She leads the team with 38 assists and 18 steals and is hitting 34 percent from three-point range.  Heather McHugh adds 9.9 ppg and stretches the defense by hitting 40 percent from three-point range on 22-of-55 shooting. 
 
Arlana Roland has split time between the starting lineup and a reserve role, chipping in with 7.8 ppg on 50 percent field goal shooting.  Mahogany Spence is scoring 6.8 ppg and adds 5.6 rpg to go along with 30 assists, second on the team.
