MANSFIELD, Pa. – Despite a game-high 24 points from Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford), Kutztown University could not overcome a cold-shooting first half in an 81-69 loss at Mansfield.
 
The Golden Bears (6-13, 4-9 PSAC) shot 53 percent in the second half after hitting only 24 percent in the first half. 
 
The Mounties (7-10, 4-9 PSAC) built a 40-27 halftime lead and by the end of the night placed four players in double figures, including double-doubles by Marrysa Moyer and Julia Stevenson.
 
In the second half, a three by Wood cut the Mansfield lead to 49-42 with 12:29 to play.  Morgan Hafer answered with a three for the Mounties that started a 15-3 run that put the game out of reach.
 
Wood sank 8-of-19 field goals, including 2-of-5 on threes, and went 6-of-7 from the foul line.  She was one of three players with four steals, along with Keyla Pullen (Richmond, VA/Monacan) (Richmond, Va./Monacan) and Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape).  Campbell and Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) each blocked two shots. Brittany LeVan (Centre Hall, PA/Penns Valley) (Centre Hall, Pa./Penns Valley) scored seven points off the bench to lead a unit that outscored its counterparts 26-14.
 
Stevenson and Moyer each scored 15 points, while Moyer's 12 rebounds were one more than Stevenson.  The duo helped the Mounties outrebound Kutztown 47-33 and build a 22-2 advantage in second chance points. 
 
Mallory Moore had 19 points and four steals, while Jena Matter added 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists. 
 
The Golden Bears forced the Mounties into 28 turnovers.
 
The loss snapped KU's two-game win streak.
 
Kutztown will look to get back in the win column on Saturday, January 28 at Bloomsburg.
