RESULTS
KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's swimming team concluded its regular season by defeating Lock Haven University, 134-128 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet on Saturday afternoon.
For the second consecutive season Kutztown and Lock Haven joined forces to a host a Pancreatic Cancer Awareness meet to help raise money and awareness for the debilitating disease that affects so many.
Both teams wore a special edition purple and white swim cap and accepted donations throughout the meet. All proceeds collected were donated to the American Cancer Society.
The Golden Bears (5-3 overall, 3-3 PSAC) concluded its regular season in style by utilizing team efforts.
Freshman
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) won two events for Kutztown. She was first in the 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 54.87. Davies' time in the 100-yard free was a PSAC qualifying time. She was also first in the 50-yard free (25.28.)
"Davies qualifying for the PSAC in the 100-yard free was the swim of the meet," Kutztown University head coach
Tim Flannery said. "This was a great meet coming off last night's meet."
Sophomore
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) was dominant for the Golden Bears in the distance swims. Metz won the 1000-yard free, clocking in at 11 minutes, and two seconds. She was also first in the 500-yard free (5:24.87) and junior
Lauren Malloy (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) was second (5:26.02).
Senior
Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, N.J./Princeton) won the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.76) and the 100-yard back with a PSAC qualifying time of 1:01.23. Freshman
Ellen Groeneveld (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) followed in third (1:08.63). Shapiro finished third in the 50-yard free (25.87).
Junior
Jess Mape (Camp Hill, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) won the 200-yard breaststroke with a PSAC qualifying time of 2:28.48. Mape was also second in the 100-yard breast (1:09.93) and 200-yard individual medley (2:16.64).
Junior
Lauren Galetto (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart) also had PSAC qualifying times in the 200-yard butterfly and 100-yard butterfly. She was first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:14.71. Galetto was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.15) and freshman
Jessica Bleiler (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) was third (1:02.71).

Stephanie Kearns (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), Davies, Malloy and Shapiro was first with a time of 1:41.28.
"This was a total team effort," Flannery said. "Everyone had a hand in this meet."
The Golden Bears will spend the next few weeks resting and preparing for the 2012 PSAC Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 16 in Mechanicsburg, Pa.
