The Golden Bears (4-12 overall, 2-8 PSAC) will look to earn a win against the Wolves (0-13 overall, 0-9 PSAC) who have not won a game this season. Cheyney is currently eighth in the PSAC East Division, the same spot where it was picked to finish in the PSAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. KU presently sits in seventh in the PSAC East.
Kutztown defeated Cheyney last season 83-61 when it made a visit to Cope Hall. The last time that the Wolves were victorious over KU was on Feb. 4, 2009 where Cheyney won 83-76 at Cope Hall.
The Golden Bears will look to rebound after falling to West Chester, 78-73, and East Stroudsburg, 62-55, last week.
Last week in conference play, the Wolves fell 66-49 to Millersville on Monday and dropped a 77-50 decision to the hands of Bloomsburg, who leads the PSAC East.
KU's 73 points against WCU was the second most it scored on an opponent this season. It also had its best shooting performance of the season against the Golden Rams as it shot 26-for-55 from the field (47 percent). KU hit a season-high eight 3-pointers against both East Stroudsburg and West Chester. Arguably one of its best games of the season, KU handed out a season-high 20 assists and 12 steals.
Junior
Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) (Limerick, PA./Spring-Ford) was the only Golden Bear to record double figures in scoring against West Chester and East Stroudsburg. Wood leads all players in scoring (14.6 / game) and registered 17 points against the Warriors and 11 over the Golden Rams. Wood is tenth in the PSAC in scoring and continues to progress in her third year in the maroon and gold.
Sophomore
Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) (Surf City, NJ./ Southern Regional) finished with a team-high 18 points against WCU, her second best performance of the season. Hodgson was 6-for-10 from the field and didn't disappoint as the PSAC's best free throw shooter as she was 6-for-6 from the line. Hodgson tops the conference in free throw percentage (92.6). As a team, the Golden Bears are second in free throw percentage (75.3).
Sophomore
Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, VA./ Godwin) tallied 18 points against West Chester. Sisson has scored in double figures 11 times this season and chips in 12.2 points per game. She hit five 3-pointers against WCU, just one shy of tying her season-high of six. Sisson's stellar perimeter shooting has deemed her one of the best 3-point shooters in the PSAC this season, averaging 2.8 per game.
Freshman
Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) (Mount Laurel, NJ./Lenape) tied her career-high 12 points against the Golden Rams. However, she wasn't the only rookie that had a career performance. Freshman
Keyla Pullen (Richmond, VA/Monacan) (Richmond, VA./Monacan) also turned in an exciting performance against the Golden Rams as she handed out a career-high six assists to match her career-high eight points.
Junior
Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and added three steals over East Stroudsburg. She tops the conference in defensive rebounds (6.9/game) and is fourth in the PSAC in rebounding, grabbing 8.5 a game.
Kutztown's turnovers have slowed down its offense during the season. KU will have to limit its turnovers as it moves throughout the rest of its schedule.
The Wolves are led by Nadirah Brown, who was an All-PSAC selection last season. Brown is scoring 12.2 ppg and grabbing 7.5 rebounds per game, which is tenth in the PSAC. She had a team-leading 15 points and 10 rebounds against the Marauders. Cheyney took a ten point deficit at intermission. With the lead still at ten points four minutes into the second half, the Marauders went on an 8-1 run to stretch the lead to 17 points (46-29) from which the Lady Wolves were not able to overcome.
Brown also paced the Lady Wolves with 11 points and six rebounds over Bloomsburg. Aerie DeJesus and Lachelle Miller added nine and eight respectively.
Kutztown will host Millersville on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a PSAC East Division game beginning at 1 p.m. in Keystone Arena.
