KUTZTOWN, Pa. — The Kutztown University women's swimming team will host Millersville University on Saturday, Jan. 14 for a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet at Keystone Pool beginning at 1 p.m.
The Golden Bears (3-2 overall, 2-2 PSAC) recently competed in the Bob Mowerson Sprint Meet in Ft. Lauderdale, FL were they finished fifth. Additionally, KU took part in some extensive training and is ready to put it to use.
The Marauders (3-0 overall, 1-0 PSAC) will face its second PSAC opponent of the season. Millersville defeated PSAC mate Mansfield University, 127-68 on Oct. 29. Kutztown will look to give Millersville its first dual meet loss of the season.
The Golden Bears have continued to turn in stellar performances in various events. Senior
Jordan Shapiro (Yardville, N.J./Princeton) leads KU in the 50-yard freestyle (24.53) and 100-yard (55.55). Shapiro also competes in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard backstroke in which she continues to control for KU. Freshman
Caitlin Davies (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) has also had some great performances in the 50-yard free and 100-yard free.
Senior
Lauren Malloy (Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) leads the Golden Bear bunch in the 200-yard freestyle with her top time of the season being one minute, 58 seconds.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Metz (Rosemont, Pa./Radnor) has been KU's forerunner in the 500-yard freestyle 1000-yard freestyle, and 1650-yard freestyle.
Junior
Lauren Galetto (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart) tops the 100-and 200-yard butterfly for KU. Senior
Jess Mape (Camp Hill, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) leads the Golden Bears in the 200-yard individual medley, while freshman
Kelli Sheatsley (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) tops the 100-yard IM.
Kutztown's relay teams have shown that they're a valuable factor as it continues to place relatively high in meets.
In its last meet at the Highlander Invitational, Millersville's Sarah Bernhardt posted a NCAA provisional time in the 100-yard freestyle (52.86), which set a school record. Bernhardt posted three NCAA B cut times during the invitational.
Brigid Mary McDonnell set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:29.35. As a team, the Marauders finished ninth out of ten teams as it was the only Division II school in competition at the invitational.
Kutztown will host its last home meet of the season when C.W. Post visits on Friday, Jan. 20 for a dual meet starting at 4 p.m.
