Golden Bears cap home stand with win over Philly

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (September 7, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team wasted no time proving its early undefeated record as it took down Philadelphia University in straight games Wednesday night at Keystone Arena. (BOXSCORE)

 

The Golden Bears (6-0 overall) played well on both sides of the ball in a convincing victory over the Rams (1-1).  Junior Brittany Harman (Hanover, PA/South Western) had a game-high 12 kills to go along with seven digs.  Harman has 38 kills this season, good for fourth on the team.

 

Cait Hess (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) drove home eight kills, bringing her team-leading season total to 61.  Fellow senior Cali Snell (York, PA/York Suburban) also had eight kills and three digs.  The duo each recorded two total blocks.  Erin Kissling (York, PA/Central York) added nine kills and seven digs in her three games played.

 

After surpassing the 1,000 career dig mark in her previous match, senior Lindsey Smith (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) notched 27 digs for the second time this season.  She leads the team with 126 on the year.  Junior setters Dana Wright (Warminster, PA/Saint Basil Academy) and Kimberlee Gomber (Washington, PA/Washington) teamed up for 39 total assists.    

 

Kutztown travels to Shepherd University on Friday, Sept. 9 to compete in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC)/West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Challenge.  Over the two-day tournament, KU will face West Virginia State University, Davis & Elkins College, Fairmont State University and Shepherd University.
