Schwar leads the charge for KU lacrosse as it travels to IUP and Lock Haven

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (April 14, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team has shown tremendous improvement this season. The Golden Bears have already surpassed their win total from last season and will look to add to that mark when they take a daunting trip out west to meet Indiana (Pa.) on Friday and Lock Haven Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears' game against IUP will begin at 4 p.m. The Lock Haven contest has been changed to a 3 p.m. and fans can watch the entire match by CLICKING HERE.

In the middle of the Golden Bear turnaround this season has been junior Megan Schwar (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg). The criminal justice major who is minoring in sociology has 18 ground ball pickups and six caused turnovers for the Golden Bears this season. She had a season-high six ground balls during Kutztown's 17-2 win over Chestnut Hill Monday afternoon.

Schwar took a few minutes from her busy schedule to speak with the Kutztown University Sports Information Office.

Kristin Cornelis: When did you start playing lacrosse?
Megan Schwar (Alpha, NJ/Phillipsburg): Freshman year in high school

K.C.: Why do you play lacrosse?
M.S.: Once I got into high school I was sick of playing softball, so I gave lacrosse a try and I fell in love with it.

K.C.: What helps you if you're struggling throughout a game?
M.S.: Thinking of my teammates working hard.

K.C.: What do you like best about Kutztown?
M.S.: Everything is really close, so on weekends you can walk everywhere. I also love playing photo hunt at Camillos.

K.C.: What has been your favorite moment as a Kutztown student-athlete?
M.S.: Freshman and sophomore year I also played field hockey as well as lacrosse. I think those two years were awesome because I loved getting the opportunity to play my two favorite sports in college.

K.C.: What do you like to do in your spare time?
M.S.: What spare time? I am a student athlete….But seriously, if I do get spare time I enjoy hanging out with my friends and go shopping with my roommates.

K.C.: What are your career aspirations?
M.S.: I'm not sure what I want to do with the rest of my life yet. I'm really interested in law though, so right now the plan is to go to law school after I graduate and become a lawyer.

K.C.: What's on your iPod right now?
M.S.: Wiz Khalifa and Wale

M.S.: I look up to both of my parents. They are very hard working and have accomplished so many things that I hope to achieve when I am older.

K.C.: What was your favorite home/away game? Why?
M.S.: My favorite home and away games were all the ones we won: Erskine, Converse, and Philadelphia University (away), Mercy and Chestnut Hill (home)

K.C.: What is the best advice you have ever received?
M.S.: Keep it simple.

K.C.: If you could meet anybody in the world, who would it be? Why?
M.S.: Michael Jackson. I have been a huge fan ever since I can remember.
