GAME PREVIEW: Golden Bears set to host Penn State Berks

KUTZTOWN, Pa. (November 29, 2011) – The Kutztown University men's basketball team returns to non-conference action when Penn State Berks visits Keystone Arena on November 30 at 7:00 PM.  The contest also completes KU's five-game homestand to open 2011-12.
 
The Golden Bears are 2-2 on the season, with both losses coming by just a single point, including an 80-79 setback to Gannon in their last outing on November 20.  Devon McBride (Richmond, VA/Hill School) paced KU in the contest with 22 points, including four threes.
 
KU is a perfect 7-0 all-time against the Nittany Lions, including last year's 90-49 victory on the road.  Eric Brennan (Chester, PA/West Catholic) turned in a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.   
 
McBride has paced an offense averaging over 83 points per game this season with a team-high 21.3 ppg.  The senior is hitting .452 from three-point range on 14-of-31 thus far.  He has also hit 84 percent from the free throw line and pulls in five rebounds per game. He averaged 25 ppg last weekend, including 28 in the win over Clarion.
 
Three other Golden Bears also score in double figures.  Nate Edwards (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic), closing in on 900 career points, pours in 19 ppg on 51 percent shooting.  His 13 assists are second on the team, while he leads the team with eight steals.  He has topped 20 points twice, including 23 points in the opener. 
 
Newcomer Micah Fraction (Macungie, PA/Montrose Christian) averages 17 ppg to date and leads the team with 23 assists.  He won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Athlete of the Week earlier this season after scoring 18 points and dishing out ten assists in his KU debut.
 
Brennan, the team's leading rebounder at 6.8/game tallies 14 ppg on 55 percent shooting from the floor.   The senior notched a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards against Wilmington earlier this year.
 
Berks enters the game at 0-1 after a 72-58 loss to DeSales on November 15.  Shawn Green led the Nittany Lions with 18 points in the contest on 6-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-5 from behind the three-point arc.  He also blocked two shots and added six steals. 
 
Jeff Schmidt and Wanyae Hartsfield added 10 points apiece for Berks.  Both players hit a pair of threes in the game as the Nittany Lions went 8-of-23 from long distance.  Dontez Reid hauled in a team-high five rebounds, while Tore Turner dished out four assists. 
 
KU will take on a pair of PSAC West foes this weekend, traveling to Mercyhurst on December 3 and stopping at Slippery Rock on Sunday, December 4.  Both games are set for 3:00 PM.
