Hot Second Half Not Enough at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. (November 26, 2011) – The Kutztown University women's basketball team shot 55 percent in the second half, but it was not enough to overcome a 24-point halftime deficit as the Golden Bears fell 66-55 at Goldey-Beacom.
 
Ashley Wood (Limerick, PA/Spring-Ford) had her second straight 18-point game after hitting 8-of-15 field goals and 2-of-5 threes in the contest.  Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) hit all six of her free throws on her way to 12 points and also blocked a shot and had two steals.  Steph Zewe (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) led the team with six rebounds.
 
A pair of free throws by Hodgson just over three minutes in made it 6-6 just over three minutes into the action, but the Lightning (4-2) embarked on a 17-3 run over the next six minutes that resulted in a 23-9 lead after a three-point play by Akilah Sewell with 10:49 to go in the half.  Goldey-Beacom later closed the half with 10 straight points to make it 39-15 at the intermission.
 
In the second half, Kutztown (1-5) tried to cut into the Lightning's lead, but needed a nine-point run to finish the game to cut it to 11, 66-55.
 
Sewell had a monster game for Goldey-Beacom with 23 points and 17 rebounds.  Devonne Richardson added 11 points, seven boards and three assists.  Ashley Rosario had three steals.
 
Kutztown's hot shooting second half brought them to 38 percent for the contest.  The Golden Bears went 11-of-13 from the free throw line, but Goldey-Beacom finished 20-of-27. 
 
The Lightning held  a 15-6 advantage on second chance points, but Kutztown's bench scored 13 points in the second half to help chip away at the lead.
 
The Golden Bears travel to Chestnut Hill on November 30 for a 6:00 PM tip off.
