KUTZTOWN, Pa. (October 11, 2011) – The Kutztown University field hockey team opened its three-game road trip on the wrong side of a 3-0 decision to East Stroudsburg University Tuesday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup.
(BOXSCORE)
The Golden Bears (8-5 overall, 3-3 PSAC East) entered Tuesday's contest ranked eighth in the latest Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) top poll.
Kutztown is currently third in the East behind Bloomsburg and West Chester. With the top three teams in each division moving onto the postseason, every game holds a strong importance in the final outcome of the regular season.
Junior forward
Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) has been one of KU's consistent leaders on the offensive end. She leads the team with eight goals this season, but was unable to find the back of the net on her six shots on goal. KU outshot the Warriors 16-10 but were unable to get one past Warrior goalkeeper Maureen Ordnung. She finished with 11 saves.
ESU (7-8, 2-5) found its rhythm late in the first half, scoring all three of its goals within a seven minute span. Lauren Ventrella, Brielle Kessel and Jessica Lawville each scored for the Warriors.
KU will look to hand seventh-ranked C.W. Post (8-5, 3-4) its comeuppance from an earlier defeat this season. The Pioneers took down KU, 5-1, at University Field earlier this season and sits a half-game behind Kutztown in the East.
