PEMBROKE, NC (January 22, 2011) – The Kutztown University wrestling team won two of its three matches on Saturday as it competed at the Regional Duals at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.
Kutztown defeated Anderson University 32-9, Limestone College 25-14, and fell to fourth-ranked Newberry College 29-13.

The Golden Bears (7-9 overall) started their day against Anderson, where they won four consecutive matches to start. KU saw a little bit of everything early on, winning by small margins, large margins, and falls.
Desmond Moore earned a 13-2 major decision at 125. Austin Williams (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) (133) won by a tech fall with a 17-1 score at 4 minutes, 24 seconds, and Mitch Voelker (Shoemakersville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) defeated Anderson's Ian Harper 9-3 in his only match of the day at 141. John Paukovits (Northampton, PA/Northampton) (149) pinned Eric DeAngelis in just 0:34 and before it knew it, Anderson was down 17-0.
Closing out the win for KU and winning their matches were Ricky Pena (Reading, PA/Reading) (165) who won by fall (4:05), Seth Csaszar (Northampton, PA/Northampton) (184) winning by decision (7-3), and Giovanni Ortiz (Reading, PA/Reading) (197) who won by tech fall (17-0, 3:46).
KU's second match of the day proved to be one of its toughest matchups of the season in Newberry. Williams earned his fastest fall of the season as he pinned William Young in 1:28. This is Williams' first fall of the season.
Paukovits won by major decision with a 12-3 final, and Tim Darling (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) won a 3-1 decision. Darling came into Saturday ranked fifth in Division II at 174.
Kutztown's final match would be its closest and most evenly matched as it went toe-to-toe with Limestone. The Golden Bears won six matches against the Saints and got some key points midway through the match from some of its wrestlers.
JuJu Drummond (Easton, PA/Easton) (141) took down Matthew Hall in 1:59. Ricky Pena (Reading, PA/Reading) also won by fall, pinning Chris Didyoung in 3:35.
Csaszar had yet another impressive performance for KU, as he was scored on the better half of a 3-1 overtime decision against a nationally-ranked opponent in Casey Bradley.
Paukovits earned his second major decision of the day, winning 12-4. After sitting out last weekend due to injury, Paukovits sure has recovered as he won all three of his matches on Saturday.
KU's final two victories came by decision with Williams winning 7-5, and Ortiz winning 8-2.
The 2011 regional duals brought out the best in some of KU's wrestlers on Saturday and will hope to keep its stretch of impressive match's alive heading into the weekend. The Golden Bears head to western Pennsylvania next weekend as it will face Mercyhurst College on Friday and Gannon University on Saturday.
