KU to take hot streak down to Carolina’s for Regional Dual meet

KUTZTOWN, PA (January 20, 2011) – After an impressive pair of home victories last weekend, the Kutztown University wrestling team will continue its stretch of facing nationally-ranked opponents on Saturday, Jan 22 as it travels to Pembroke, N.C. to compete in the 2011 Regional Duals.

Hosting this year's dual meet is the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Kutztown has three matches scheduled for Saturday beginning with Anderson University at 11:00 a.m., followed by Newberry College at 1 p.m. and Limestone College at 3 p.m. (SUPER REGION 1 HEADQUATERS)

The Golden Bears (5-8 overall) won both of their matches last Saturday at Keystone Arena. The finer of the two victories came against then-15th ranked West Liberty University, who KU defeated 29-11. Kutztown also took down Seton Hill University 30-12.

Every week, Kutztown has had different wrestlers step up and wrestle hard. The strength that KU has shown at each class proves that the hard work and dedication during practice is paying off.

One of the many KU wrestlers who have been wrestling well as of late is junior Desmond Moore (Easton, PA/Easton). He has four dual wins at 125 this season, two of which coming by fall.

Wrestling back at his accustom weight of 141 will be JuJu Drummond (Easton, PA/Easton). Drummond saw his first action as a Golden Bear last weekend as he wrestled up at 149 due to the injury of John Paukovits (Northampton, PA/Northampton). Drummond split his two matches Saturday, but did earn a fall against West Liberty in 1 minute, 58 seconds.

Paukovits returns to the lineup this weekend at 149.

Tim Darling (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) comes into the weekend tied for a team-leading 11 dual wins this season. He is currently ranked fifth in Division II at 174. He also leads the team with five falls, his fastest coming in just 23 seconds.

Also with 11 dual wins is sophomore Justin Grant (Easton, PA/Easton). Grant has become a force for Kutztown at 285, winning a combined 17 matches this season. Grant won both of his matches last weekend.

Also planning to wrestle this weekend are Austin Williams (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) (133), Mitch Voelker (Shoemakersville, PA/Schuylkill Valley) (141), Anthony Frost (West Reading, PA/Wyomissing) (157), Ricky Pena (Reading, PA/Reading) (165), Seth Csaszar (Northampton, PA/Northampton) (184) and Gio Ortiz (197).

Going up against Kutztown will be some of the top teams in Division II. Newberry College (12-3) moved up to fourth in Division II in this week's rankings and features five nationally-ranked wrestlers including Bryant Blanton who is No. 1 at 184.

Limestone College (3-7) is coming off a 30-10 victory over Anderson University (6-14).
After Saturday's three dual matches, Kutztown will travel to Western Pennsylvania as it will go up against Mercyhurst on Friday, Jan 28 and Gannon on Sat, Jan 29.
