SLIPPERY ROCK, PA (September 25, 2010) – The Kutztown University field hockey team opened its three-game road trip by claiming a 3-0 victory over Slippery Rock University Saturday morning. (BOXSCORE)
Kutztown, ranked seventh in the latest National Field Hockey Coaches' Association Top 10, won its second consecutive match to raise its overall record to 3-1. Slippery Rock fell to 0-5. This was Kutztown's second victory over Slippery Rock in two weeks.
The Golden Bears got first half goals from Jenna Gregory (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg) and Abbey Sheeler (Fleetwood, PA/Brandywine Heights). Erin Reynolds (York, PA/Central York) finished off the scoring with a goal in the second half. Gregory and Reynolds also had assists for Kutztown, which held a 14-7 shot advantage. KU's Emily Labowitz (Bala Cynwyd, PA/Lower Merion) assisted on Gregory's goal three minutes into the game.
Kutztown's goalie tandem of Emily Falko (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) and Karly Waltman (Birdsboro, PA/Twin Valley) combined to make seven saves. Falko had five in the five half. Waltman protected KU's advantage by making two saves after intermission.
The Golden Bears return to action Sunday afternoon when they travel to Seton Hill University for a 4 p.m. faceoff.
