Kutztown athletics reaches new three-year deal with WEEU

KUTZTOWN, PA – Kutztown University and WEEU have extended their relationship with a new three-year partnership to broadcast select Golden Bear football and basketball games on the Reading-based radio station through the 2012 season.

WEEU has broadcasted Kutztown football games since 2003.

“We are very excited about this great opportunity,” Kutztown University director of athletics Greg Bamberger said.  “This is going to be an outstanding way for us to let the public know about the high-quality of our university and our student-athletes.  Listeners can expect to hear not only exciting athletic events, but can also depend on learning a great deal about KU.”

WEEU will broadcast eight football games and three basketball games during the 2010-11 year beginning with the Golden Bears' football season opener against Saint Anselm on Saturday, September 4 at 1:05 p.m. WEEU's coverage will pick back up on Saturday, October 2 when KU host Shippensburg and continue every Saturday through the remainder of the regular season. The basketball schedule will be announced at a later date.

WEEU sports anchor Mitch Gerhart will serve as play-by-play announcer for most of the KU football games.

“We are very pleased to extend our long-standing relationship with Kutztown University and Kutztown University Golden Bear sports,” WEEU president and general manager Dave Kline said. “The new three-year continuation of our partnership to broadcast KU Golden Bear sports falls right in line with our original mission and vision. KU offers exceptionally good sports, academic programs and educational value. We fervently believe that this partnership will benefit the university, its students and faculty, and the community at large.”

WEEU broadcasts at 830 kHz on the AM dial with 20,000 watts during daytime hours and 6,000 watts during evening hours.  Its signal can be heard in all or parts of 16 Pennsylvania counties during the day, including Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Columbia, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Montgomery, Northampton, Northumberland, Philadelphia, Schuylkill and York.
