Women's basketball announces 2010-11 recruiting class

KUTZTOWN, PA (July 30, 2010) -- The Kutztown University women's basketball family is proud to announce the additions of six future Golden Bears to represent the maroon & gold in the coming years.

The 2010 class of Sharele Anderson (Clayton, NJ/Clayton) (Clayton, NJ/Clayton), Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) (Walnutport, PA/Northampton), Leah Hawk (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley), Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional), Kira Ogden (Cheltenham, PA/Cheltenham) and Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) (Richmond, VA/Godwin) joins a program that has averaged 19 victories over the last two years.

Sharele Anderson (Clayton, NJ/Clayton) is a 5-10 forward, who can score and finished as the all-time leading scorer at Clayton High School with over 1,600 points. She was named first team all-conference and was team captain for three years. She was also a first team all-Group I selection. Anderson is undecided on her major.

Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) is 5-10, who is a strong wing player that can handle the ball, shoot and is physical around the basket. Bonenberger helped Northampton win the PIAA Class AAAA District IX championship. She was named as a 2009-10 Lehigh Valley Conference all-star and selected to the WAEB Sports Radio all-area team. Bonenberger was also named to the Allentown Morning Call all-area team. She was the MVP of the 2009 William Allen Christmas tournament. An honor roll student, Bonenberger is planning to major in leisure and sport studies.

Leah Hawk (Carlisle, PA/Cumberland Valley) is the Golden Bears' tallest recruit at 6-3. She was a member of the Carlisle High School basketball team for four years. Many believe Hawk's best days are ahead of her. A member of the  honor roll, Hawk's major is undecided.

Avery Hodgson (Surf City, NJ/Southern Regional) is a 5-11 post player who can step out and shoot the ball. She has tremendous upside to her game. Hodgson was selected to the 2009-10 Atlantic City Press first team, all-state Ocean County first team and selected to the Coaches All-Division Class A South team. She was a 2010 McDonalds All-American nominee. She helped Southern Regional advance to the South Jersey IV championship in two consecutive years. In 2008-09, Hodgson was selected to the Southern Ocean County all-star team and Shore Conference all-division Class A south first team. While playing volleyball, Hodgson helped Southern Region win the Group IV state championship and she was a third team all-state selection. A member of the World Language National Honor Society and honor roll, Hodgson plans to major in special education.

Kira Ogden is a 5-8 forward who will red-shirt this season. She helped Cheltenham advance to the PIAA Class AAAA quarterfinals and win the PIAA Class AAAA District One championshop. Ogden grabbed 13 rebounds in her final high school game, a setback to Central Dauphin.

Andrea Sisson (Richmond, VA/Godwin) is a 5-6 shooting guard with excellent 3-point shooting ability. Sisson was a two-time first team all-district selection. She was the 2009-10 Colonial District Player of the Year. Sisson was a 2009-10 first team all-Central region and second team all-metro region team. She was named team MVP by her coaches. In addition to her basketball skills, Sisson was a two-time all-academic Colonial District and all-Academic Central Region. She plans to major in sport and leisure studies.
